Jersey Shore Nursing Homes Receive Failing Grade from Medicare
Four nursing homes in Ocean and Monmouth counties have received the LOWEST rating under the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) five-star rating system. The nursing homes rated with just “one-star” include: Gateway Care Center (Eatontown), Manchester Manor Rehabilitation (Manchester) Rose Garden Nursing and Rehabilitation Center (Toms River), and Shore Meadows Rehabilitation Nursing Center (Toms River).
According to CMS, a “one-star” rating indicates that quality of the facility is “much below average” the federal standards of quality care. Simply put, this means these nursing homes are NOT doing their job to ensure their facilities are clean and safe, that their staff is fully trained and that the needs of their residents are being met to the fullest extent possible. This is disturbing news if you live in or around one of these areas and you are in the process of selecting a nursing home for your loved one.
Here are brief summaries of the CMS reports for these poorly rated New Jersey nursing homes:>
Manchester Manor Rehabilitation – Received one-star rating for the past five years, noted mold and leaks in ceilings, non-nutritional food to residents, failed to “develop policies that prevent mistreatment, neglect or abuse of residents”, residents reported feeling “thoroughly disgusted” and “insignificant”.
Rose Garden Nursing and Rehabilitation Center – Received one-star rating for past three years, some nursing staff members have history of “abusing, neglecting or mistreating residents” noted incidents of failing to protect each resident from “all abuse, physical punishment and being separated from others,”
Shore Meadows Rehabilitation Nursing Center – Has failed to ensure the “highest well-being of each resident” by neglecting necessary care services (i.e. providing medication, timely responses, preventing falls and fractures, etc).
Gateway Care Center – Received one-star rating for past two years, failed to “investigate two reported falls that led to injuries,” staff has neglected providing timely and appropriate care services.
Abuse, neglect and mistreatment SHOULD NOT be tolerated. The process of finding the right home can be arduous. You want to ensure that your loved one’s needs are being met with SUPERIOR quality care.
