Kentucky Nursing Home Negligence Forces Closure and Resident Relocation
More than 125 Kentucky families who entrusted their loved ones to the care to the Hurstbourne Care Centre have just learned that Medicare is shutting the facility down because of poor resident care. The nursing home’s residents are being moved to other local nursing homes.
Medicare’s action comes in light of the Inspector General’s 700-page report citing “severe problems” at the nursing home. This includes stories from some families about their loved ones who woke up covered in ants. Another resident claims her husband was completely neglected and that he didn’t receive a shower or two months while living at the home.
“Several of the alleged deficiencies were determined to be an immediate and severe threat to the residents of the facility,” the report revealed. “Problems at the facility were determined to be so severe that CMS today issued a notice of termination of the provider agreement with the facility, which is effective July 25.”
This story is unfolding in Kentucky, but nursing home negligence is a widespread problem throughout the entire country. New Jersey, which has many quality nursing homes and assisted living facilities, is not completely immune to acts of resident abuse and nursing home negligence.
