Recently, the group discovered some unsettling facts about nursing homes in Oklahoma.
AARP Discovers Nursing Homes in Oklahoma are Falling Behind
Recent news reports confirmed how AARP ranked Oklahoma’s nursing homes as some of the worst in the nation. AARP determined that Oklahoma’s nursing homes are failing to provide basic quality care for residents. Nurses in the state spend the fewest number of hours each day for each patient, and the state ranked second for the rate of patients with pressure sores. Even more disturbing, Oklahoma’s nursing homes ranked the highest in the country for the rate at which they utilize antipsychotic medications on patients that don’t suffer from a psychiatric disorder. AARP’s findings highlight a need for the state to prioritize reforming their nursing homes, raise the overall standard for the quality of care provided to residents and ensure that homes are staffed appropriately.
