In April 2012, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced that new warnings are required for the popular birth control drugs Yaz, Yasmin, Beyaz and Ocella. These government warnings were issued based on studies showing that these drugs carry a much higher risk of dangerous and life-threatening blood clots, deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE) than other birth control pills.
